Online Poker Controls: A Canadian Review

Compare & Review Information For Controls / Controllers For Poker

Lite Control

Price: $35 Manufacturer: Enterprise7Other: Wireless, Laser
The Good: USB receiver attaches directly to back of control for convenient storage in any laptop's expansion bay. Reception works through walls and floors up to 15 meters with extremely long battery life (excluding laser useage).
The Bad: Laser is pretty much useless unless you have a cat or dog to play with. Buttons seem to wear fast on this device. But the 2-year manufacturer warranty accepts upgrade options so it may be a good place to start.
Overall Impression: You would be wise to spend a little more money and get the Plus control.

Plus Control

Price: $45 Manufacturer: Enterprise7Other: Controls Movies & Music
The Good: Controls movies and music applications with ease. Multi-tabling to music and back to multiple poker tables works great. A single CR2032 watch type battery can last over a year and reception works through walls so no need to point directly at the computer. A quite comfortable fit in the hands and perfect button positioning in the layout design.
The Bad: This control is quite small and many buttons may take time to get accustomed to.
Overall Impression: With poker control as well as movies and music, this makes a great value.

Standard Mouse

Price: $20-$75+ Manufacturer: Many To Choose From
The Good: A standard mouse comes free with computers unless thinking of upgrading to a more advanced wireless one. The mouse is quite easy to use for controlling online poker games.
The Bad: Sitting at a desk can get boring, uncomfortable and unhealthy for eyes, wrists and back. Poker players sit at computer tables longer than regular office workers and even they experience major wrist and back pains and/or suffer of weak eye sight. Nearsightedness (Myopia), Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, back pain, joint pains are just a few muscle strain injuries caused by overuse of a mouse. The mouse for online poker definitely causes many bodily harms.
Overall Impression: Switch to a better, more fun, comfortable and healthier alternative.

The Touch Pad

Price: $20-$75+ Manufacturer: Many To Choose From
The Good: Also free as part of every laptop. Although a touchpad is known to be much healthier on the wrists than a standard mouse, it is quite inconvenient to use for online poker playing.
The Bad: Unless you are a touchpad expert, you may have difficulty pointing to the poker action buttons and can get quite annoying using this finger coordinated device for longer durations.
Overall Impression: A touchpad may be okay if playing for 1 or 2 hours, but if you're playing for several hours per day, you'd be better switching to something else.

Poker Mouse

Price: $100 Manufacturer: Poker MouseOther:Wireless Ergonomic
The Good: A comfortable fit and elegent design. Controls poker as well as other applications just as a regular mouse trackball.
The Bad: Much like an ordinary trackball, the cost is much too high with hardly many benefits. Difficult to control especially for online poker using the trackball to point to various poker actions may get tedious. The convenience is missing in this product.
Overall Impression: Save your money for something better. There are several better alternatives at a lower cost.

Poker Controls IPAD Application Support

Price: Free - $14.99 Manufacturer: PokerControlsOther:Ipad App.
The Good: A great price! For just a few dollars you can turn your ipod/ipad into a multi-functional online poker controls device.
The Bad: The software is full of bugs and errors. Some game actions do not work with certain poker sites, and some poker sites do not work at all. The customer support is extremely slow, and responses are more or less useless. This app may work for you depending on your ipad setting, in effect with your windows settings, or you just may get a headache trying to get it to work.
Overall Impression: For a few bucks lost, hey it's like paying a big blind!

The Keyboard

Price: $20-$75+ Manufacturer: Many To Choose From
The Good: Customizeable to it's full extent. The keyboard serves a great purpose when combined with scripts as a poker control. You can reprogram your keyboard for example to make any button perform any online poker action.
The Bad: A keyboard is a keyboard afterall. Unless it's wireless and a specialty keyboard, it's still big, bulky and not designed for poker playing. Average users may have quite some difficulty or near impossibility learning to reprogram their keyboards as an online poker control.
Overall Impression: A decent alternative to using a mouse, but definitely not the best.

Professional Control

Price: $55 Manufacturer: Enterprise7Other: Controls 4-Tables
The Good: Individual 4-table controls for folding and switching of direct action memories. Very comfortable to hold with a superb ergonomic design to keep professional poker players comfortable and healthy without losing any gaming capabilities.
The Bad: No movie or music controls. For no apparent reason, this product has been removed from the shelves. Manufacturer tells me it will be available again next year or so? I guess it wasn't selling well compared to the Lite or Plus.
Overall Impression: A very good professional poker tool and controls 4 poker tables. Price point is comparably very good and shipping is free.

The Controller

Price: $125 Manufacturer: Poker ControlsOther: Action Style Gamepad
The Good: A great looking device! Largely designed to prevent misclicking. A built-in touchpad, and tilt button freezes all controls for a certain time. This may be upsetting however if you get dealt a high pair and find that your controls are frozen.
The Bad: This poker control is designed around sports and simulator game controllers. It may lack the convenience and comfort for playing online poker. The fold button (most commonly used) is placed at bottom most position making an awkward and uncomfortable grip for the thumb.
Overall Impression: An idea for the online poker market but with few benefits.

Duo Controller

Price: $60 Manufacturer: Enterprise7Other: Controls 2-Tables
The Good: Ergonomics at it's best. Manufactured with highest possible quality and controls movies and music. A fun to use mouse joystick with push button clicking similar to a playstation controller. This control takes online poker to a new level of fun and entertainment.
The Bad: No bad features found yet.
Overall Impression: My personal favorite because I always play 2 sit'n'gos at a time. Controls 2 simultaneous tables with ease and is great for hold'em tournaments!

Multi-Table Controller

Price: $40 Manufacturer: Enterprise7Other: Controls 4-Tables
The Good: Controls 4 tables at once making it a great tool for professional poker players. Can be used as a hand-held controller or put flat on the table for "chicken-peck" playing.
The Bad: A little small. A larger design might have made this one more comfortable to use. Manufacturer claims a release of a bigger "Multi-Tabler 2", size of a keyboard with up to 8 table support in the future. But they didn't say anything of a release date.
Overall Impression: A good item designed strictly for multi-tablers.
